Youth Olympic Torch Relay.. Epic failure!

We were suppose to assemble in school in PE on the 11 of August. We were suppose to cheer on the Torch Runner. Torch Runner indeed.
On the 11th of August, the torch relay was to run through my school, and we were needed to 'zi high' and cheer them on. We waited for about 1 and a half hour, sitting on ants infested grass, waiting for the glorious torch runners to zoom pass us with the torch.
While waiting, we did many 'zi high' stuff to get into the mood, to cheer with all our might.
But what a disappointment it was. Instead of the highly anticipated torch, what we saw left us jaw dropped, wide eyed. The uncle was holding a Youth Olympic lantern. Like WTH?! We waited so damn long just to see this lantern?
Such a waste of time. -.- and after that guy walked pass us, we could go back to class to resume lessons. How screwed can this get? After all the stories i heard about how glorious the torch relay was, I beg to differ.
TORCH RELAY IN HWACHONG = EPIC FAIL.

National Day Parade

On the 9th of August, Singapore celebrated her 45th year of freedom. I felt that this national parade was quite different from previous years. More spectacular, more exciting.
Maybe it was because the athletes from all over the world is here in Singapore, or maybe because 45years is a huge accomplishment. Either way, it was one to behold.
Personally, i feel that it was due to the fact that the Olympians were already in Singapore, and the government wanted to portray a good image of Singapore to them. With that dazzling display of fireworks, and the many great artistes who sang during the parade, I believe Singapore has achieved her goal of impressing our tourists.
However, i felt that the performance failed in one aspect - interaction with the audiences. The emcees talked too little, and the fire engines did not spray the audiences like before. It seems like the audience were not involved in one way or another. It would be great if the audiences could be included in the National Day Parade.
The performance of the red men holding the light sabers were, to me, very childish. Were they trying to show the Army's prowess? If so, I felt they failed pathetically. It was totally lame and childish.
To end on a happier note, the display of fireworks were awesome, and I hope Singapore would carry on having such spectacular performances. (:

Poem

For today's e-learning lesson, the task is to write a report on mt blog detailing the conflict represented in the poem(s) of your choice. I chose the poem 'Rainbow Death" by Hubert Wilson.

Rainbow Death

America did not foresee
Green, pink, purple and other colors death potpourri!
Expecting others to pay a high price.
Now thinking twice?
Toll on the innocent and unborn.

Omnipotent and disregarding who will mourn.
Reflective about all the illness, birth defects and prematurely dead.
All the deceit continues to spread.
Nefariously America led astray -
Generations untold WILL pay -
Execrable effects of agent orange spray!

COnflict

The author wrote 'thinking twice'. This shows that the author felt that America had not think through carefully before declaring war. Only after the war did America 'think twice'.
The use of the phrase 'death potpourri' portrays a scene where men turns into monster that take pride in killing. Potpurri is a mixture of dried leaves and flower that gives of a soothing scent; death is very brutal. By using the two words together, it shows that the author feels that the soldiers are akin to monsters.
'Nefariously' also hints that the author dislikes America, as the meaning of Nefariously is evil or villianous.
Also, the last line talks about the 'Execrable effects of agent orange spray'. Agent orange is a code name given to a highly toxic weed killer that is also harmful to humans, and can cause birth defects & premature death.

Prejudice and discrimination.

Well, I'm suppose to interview someone about his/her stand on prejudice and discrimination. Since my mum is the only one at home, i have no chioce but to interview her.

Me : What is your definition of prejudice and discrimination.
Mum : The act of elevating yourself by putting people down. It is also unfair treatment.

Me : How do you feel about it then?
Mum : It ideally should not exist as it'll then make the world a better place.

Me : What are some examples of prejudice/discrimination shown in a working adult's life?
Mum : The rich discriminate the poor, the healthy - the sick, the fit - the immobible, the smart - the lowly educated, the good looking - the ugly.

Me : How about children in school. You work in a kindergarden, so what are some form of discrimination in school?
Mum : More or less the same. Like physical abilities, family background, race, etc. But racism is not so evident in kindergarden.

Me : okay thank you..

So as you can see, discrimination is everywhere, even the 4 year old child discriminates his fellow peers. Hence, discrimination is a persisting problem that has to be cured.

Multiple Intelligence Test.

Hello People!

I just did my MIT. ( Multiple intelligence test.) As expected, I scored highest for my Interpersonal skills. This means that I am able to relate to people well. The test is split into 8 parts. The 8 parts are namely:

1) Interpersonal Skills ( People smart)
2) Intrapersonal skills ( myself smart)
3) Linguistic Skills ( Language smart)
4) Logical Skills ( Number smart)
5) Naturalistic Skills ( Nature smart)
6)Kinaesthetic skills ( Body smart)
7) Spatial skills ( Picture smart)
8) Musical SKills. ( Music smart)

Well, i scored highest for interpersonal(20/25), followed by naturalistic(16/25), then kinaesthetic, next spatial. I scored the lowest for musical (9/25).

So with this test, I realised that I'm good working with other people, or working as a group. However, I will not be able to do well by myself. Because music is my lousiest, i don't think i would want to waste my parents money by picking up guitar. Or maybe i should to improve it. I don't know. Anyway, if you want to take the test, click here.

Nature(To Kill A Mocking Bird)

a. Do a research on the natural habitat of mockingbird. In your research, include the kind of flora and fauna you think exist in Maycomb and explain why the mockingbirds live in Maycomb.

It has a gray top and white belly. It has white patches on its wings that look like bars; a long black tail with white outer feathers and a long, slender bill. Males and females look alike. That is, a mocking bird.
Mockingbirds can be found in the United States, Northern Oregon, Northern Utah, Mexico and Newfoundland. They live in open spaces where thick thickets are present.
The mockingbirds diet includes insects and berries. Grasshoppers, ants, beetles, they are all part of its diet.
The characteristics of the mockingbird suggests that Maycomb is a place where thickets are omnipresent and there are big fields. This also means that Maycomb is a place where wildlife is plentiful.
Hence, based on the characteristics of the mockingbird, I can infer that Maycomb is a place where man and nature lives together in harmony.

IT Emergency lesson 3

The poet is thinking back on his primary school days and missing those days. He remember all about his primary school life. Recalling his younger days make the poet feel sad that those days were over. Those were the days where he and his friend do things, good or bad, together. I, too, miss my primary school days. I remember eating and playing with my closest group of friends, and making teachers mad at us, all for the sake of fun. But our teachers know that we don't mean bad, just being mischievous. So I've created a poem on Primary school life. Enjoy!

Primary school days
Aren't like hay.
They ain't so dry
But quickly went by.

We played together,
and ate together.
We loved the laksa,
but not the salsa. (I'm referring to the sauce, not the dance!)

We made teachers mad
By being oh so bad.
The scolding was worth,
cause we've got her nerve.

Primary school days
Aren't like hay.
They ain't so dry
But quickly went by.
